The European Commission is supporting various projects to strengthen the development of the Black Sea Basin.
The program manager of the Joint Managing Authority told Devex Early Intelligence that the commission will support efforts related to culture and education, regional connectivity, environmental protection, waste and wastewater management, institutional capacity building, research and innovation and tourism. The JMA is based at the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Housing.
The Black Sea operational program is funded through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument and covers Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. An indicative 27 million euros (US$35.3 million) has been set aside for the activities in 2007-2013.
