The European Commission plans to promote the implementation of the LEADER method in Lithuania.
LEADER is an initiative financed by the EU structural funds and is designed to help rural actors consider the long-term potential of their local region. The overall objective of LEADER is to promote rural development through local initiatives and partnerships, particularly local action groups.
Devex Early Intelligence learned from a senior official at the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture that planned activities include strengthening local development strategies and promoting inter-territorial and transnational cooperation. The EC will also support local action groups in the country.
This funding forms part of the commission's 2007-2013 rural development program for Lithuania.
