The European Commission is funding a number of activities in Costa Rica to promote social cohesion and strengthen regional integration. The commission's assistance is channeled through the 2007-2013 country strategy framework.
A senior official at the EC's Delegation in Costa Rica told Devex Early Intelligence that the plan is to support improvements in public policies and strengthen the capacities of local social service units. Regional integration efforts include scaling up the country's participation in the Central American customs union.
The representative added that the first procurements for this program were already published and interested parties should expect more opportunities in the coming months.
The total allocation for this country strategy amounts to about 34 million euros (US$48 million).
