The European Commission will support efforts to promote the quality of life and enhance the rural economy in Lithuania.
Devex Early Intelligence learned from a senior official at the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture that the commission will invest in economic diversification and business development. It will also co-finance village renewal activities and promote rural tourism nationwide.
This forms part of the commission's 2007-2013 rural development program for Lithuania. Approximately 1.7 billion euros (US$2.4 billion) has been set aside to finance the seven-year program.
