EC to Strengthen Territorial Development in Eastern, Central and Southern Europe

The European Commission will support policy development and building a European scientific community in the field of territorial development. This is part of the 2007-2013 program of the European Spatial Planning Observation Network.

About 150 activities will be funded in Eastern, Central and Southern Europe. These actions will focus on four areas: promoting a scientific platform on territorial indicators; strengthening applied research; supporting targeted territorial analyses; and enhancing capacities and dialogue in focal regions.

The EC has allocated about 34 million euros (US$43 million) to finance the planned activities. The program is partially funded through the European Regional Development Fund.
