Ecuador has submitted a complaint to the International Court of Justice in The Hague against neighboring Colombia. Quito is demanding that Colombia stop spaying pesticides in the border region separating the two countries. Ecuador also wants Colombia to pay for the ecological damage caused by the pesticides, which are used to destroy coca plantations. Tensions between the two countries have further increased since Colombia attacked a base of left-wing FARC rebels on Ecuadorian territory on March 1. The second-in-command of the Colombian rebel group was killed in the attack. (Radio Netherlands)
