Clashes broke out between police and protesters in the Nile Delta textile town of Mahalla el-Kubra for the second straight day on April 7 and the protesters set fire to several shops, witnesses said. Thousands of youngsters threw stones at riot police and the riot police fired tear gas to disperse them, they added. Clashes started on April 6 when the day shift ended at a giant textile mill where the workers had planned to go on strike for higher wages and protest against high prices. Four people lost eyes on Sunday when the police hit them with rubber bullets, a medical source said. (Reuters)
