Egypt said Thursday (Nov. 18) it was disappointed by the U.S. government’s request to have foreign monitors observe the African nation’s parliamentary elections, The Associated Press reports.

“It seems that the U.S. insists on not respecting the privacy of the Egyptian society and making statements that incense Egypt’s nationalism,” according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
