The European Commission is funding environment related projects within its 2007-2013 thematic operation program for environment in the Czech Republic. An indicative 4.9 billion euros (US$6.2 billion) has been set aside to finance the OPE activities nationwide.
Petr Novak of the Czech Ministry of Environment tells the Devex Early Intelligence team that EC will fund projects in the areas of water management, air quality improvement and emissions reduction, sustainable use of energy sources, waste management, industrial pollution and environmental risk prevention, as well as the improvement of the state of landscape.
This funding forms part of EC's national strategic reference framework for the Czech Republic which amounts to about 26 billion euros (US$33 billion). It will be spent on projects related to environment, socio-economic and regional development.
