The Ethiopian government estimated that it would require USD300 million to feed 4.6 million people affected by drought. Current food supply is enough to cover needs in June but the situation will likely turn acute in July. The Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency expects food aid needs to hit 500,000 tons, more than four times the existing reserves of 118,000 tons. Early this week, the U.K. pledged USD19.5 million in emergency cash for Ethiopia.
