EU Aids Displaced People in Central African Republic

The European Commission released 6 million euros (USD7.5 million) to help 200,000 internally displaced people in the north of the Central African Republic. European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid Louis Michel stressed that the funding would not solve the humanitarian crisis in the country, and suggested that such would only happen through “securing a negotiated peace, better governance and long-term development.” (“Central African Republic: Commission provides EUR6 million in humanitarian aid” - European Commission, Dec. 1, 2008)
