EU Announces New Afghan Aid

The European Commission pledged EUR60 million (USD79 million) in additional aid to Afghanistan,

reported. Of the sum, EUR20 million will be allocated for the country's 2009 elections while EUR24 million will be earmarked for rural development initiatives. The remainder of the fresh aid will be used to boost the nation's police force.
