EU Offers Aid to French West Indies

The European Commission earmarked USD17.8 million for post-hurricane rehabilitation efforts in Martinique and Guadeloupe. The grant, which will be drawn from the European Union Solidarity Fund, will back rescue services, clean-up schemes and infrastructure rehabilitation. The French West Indies territories were severely damaged by hurricane Dean in August 2007.
