EU official wants review of Afghan aid

Francesc Vendrell, the European Union’s special envoy to Afghanistan, is calling for a review on the use of the bloc’s aid to the war-torn country. Vendrell said “a lot has gone into humanitarian assistance, essential but it does not provide reconstruction.” He noted that 20 percent of the funds pay for salaries, which he believes are essential but do not generate “reconstruction visible to the public.” (Source: Afghan aid often missing the target - EU envoy/Reuters)
