EU Pledges Aid for Refugees in Western Sahara

Some 10 million euros ($14 million) have been earmarked by the

for Sahrawi refugees in western Algeria. Of the sum, 5.5 million euros will be used to provide food aid. The rest of the money, which will be channeled though the commission's humanitarian aid department, will be spent on health, water and waste management services as well as tents and hygiene products. Non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies and the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement will implement activities backed by the funding.
