EU Priority in Haiti: Building Homes

The construction of houses for some 1 million Haitians left homeless by last month’s massive earthquake is a key EU priority, according to Soraya Rodriguez, Spain’s international cooperation secretary of state. Homeless Haitians need immediate and adequate shelter before Haiti’s rainy season, Rodriguez argued during a meeting with top EU, U.S. and U.N. officials. Some existing buildings may collapse during the rainy season, she added. The meeting was covered by Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
