EU, US to Recommence Development Cooperation

The European Union and U.S. government will recommence their development dialogue and cooperation after a 12-year hiatus. EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs will meet with U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Ravij Shah and Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation Soraya Rodriguez Ramos to discuss the two donors’ main areas of cooperation covering food security, climate change and the Millennium Development Goals. The officials are expected to come up with roadmaps for cooperation on these three issues in the next two years. Piebalgs was also due to present the EU’s 12-point action plan on MDGs at the World Bank-International Monetary Fund’s spring meetings.
