European Donors Back Largest African Wind Farm

The European Union and German government are helping to build the largest wind farm in Africa.

KfW Entwicklungsbank, a German development bank, is providing euro192 million (USD256 million) in loan for the construction of the Gulf of el Zayt wind farm on the Red Sea. The European Commission is also granting euro30 million and the European Investment Bank is lending euro50 million to the project.

The New and Renewable Energy Authority in Egypt will implement the project.
