FAO Hikes Aid for Herders in Chad, Niger

The Food and Agriculture Organization is augmenting its assistance to drought-affected herders and pastoralists in Niger and Chad. FAO is implementing eight new projects, valued at USD12.7 million, to purchase and distribute animal feed, seeds and fertilizers in Niger. The United Nations agency has also commenced a cash-for-work program to restore pasture land in Niger. In Chad, FAO intends to provide agricultural inputs, seeds, fertilizer and animal feed worth USD4.5 million before the planting season in May.
