The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization launched on May 11 an online initiative to call attention and spur action against global hunger.

The 1billionhungry project invites people who want to make a stand against hunger to voice their anger by signing an online petition available at www.1billionhungry.org. This petition is a call for governments to prioritize the elimination of hunger around the world.

“We should be extremely angry,” FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf said, “for the outrageous fact that our fellow human beings continue to suffer from hunger.”
