Oxfam New Zealand Executive Director Barry Coates believes that a financial transaction tax is one way to obtain donor funding in a predictable manner, and therefore stabilize foreign aid, Radio New Zealand International reports.
“It [foreign aid] shouldn’t be left to an annual budget allocation,” Coates said. “There should be predictable sources of finance to help the more vulnerable countries, and particularly in the Pacific, to be able to protect themselves from climate change, to be able to adapt.”
