Food aid for Sri Lanka refugees near empty levels

The World Food Program warned that food aid for refugees in eastern Sri Lanka would be depleted by the end of April unless it secures new funding. The agency feeds around 60,000 people in the Batticaloa district, site of violent clashes between the military and Tamil Tigers. “The problem is that the stocks are dwindling and we will run out of food supplies by the end of April,” WFP spokesman Simon Pluess said. He revealed that the WFP had already halted several programs due to funding shortage. (Source: UN food supplies for Sri Lanka refugees running out/Reuters)
