Gates Foundation Backs World Bank's Farm Research

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will grant some USD19 million to support World Bank’s research focusing on sub-Saharan Africa’s farm sector. The study will gather information on agricultural activities, as well as non-farm incomes, food consumption and nonfood expenditures, labor supply, and health and nutrition, among others, in the region. Nationally representative surveys with urban household samples will be conducted in two new countries per year beginning 2009.
