The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has chosen eight districts in Bihar as priority beneficiaries of a health initiative it plans to launch in the eastern Indian state.
The priority districts include Patna, Goplagunj, East and West Champaran, Khagaria, Begusarai, Saharsa and Samastipur, The Times of India reports.
“We will start work for integrated health, to reduce infant mortality and check diseases like tuberculosis, diarrhea and kala-azar,” said Ashok Alexander, the foundation’s country director for India, as quoted by the Indian daily.
Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Bihar’s health minister, has suggested that the foundation also include Bhagalpur, Munger and Gaya in its roster of priority districts under the scheme.
