The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced that, starting in September, it will accept applications for the next open round of its Grand Challenges Exploration initiative.
Grand Challenges Exploration is a $100 million project launched in 2008 to enable researchers from around the world to test new ideas that address persistent development challenges, particularly in the health sector. It awards grants of up to $100,000 each in two open rounds per year. Projects approved for open round funding are then evaluated and can receive additional funding of up to $1 million if deemed successful. The additional funding will be awarded over a two year period.
