Germany funds Sierra Leone's AIDS fight

Germany is donating EUR4 million (USD5.87 million) to help combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in Sierra Leone. German Ambassador Rolf Saligmann hailed the Sierra Leone government for putting health on top of its agenda in the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals. He disclosed that CARE-Sierra Leone will manage the grant. David Carew, the African nation’s finance and economic development minister, welcomed Germany’s latest gesture, adding that other donors like the World Bank and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria have also committed aid to the government’s campaign against the disease.
