Germany Outlines Tanzania Aid Priorities

Germany will not increase its general budget support for Tanzania in the next fiscal year but will instead focus its assistance on decentralization, health and water projects as part of its new aid strategy for the African country, Tanzania Daily News reports.

German Development Cooperation Minister Dirk Niebel explained during his visit to Tanzania that the German government has doubts over the effectiveness of the aid it channels through the budget support instrument.

Under its new strategy, Germany will provide 8.5 million euros (USD11.5 million) to support an ongoing Tanzania program that aims to increase contraceptive use in the country.
