Ghanaian President John Kufuor is very pleased that the Millennium Challenge Corporation has decided to give the country $547 million in grant. “One does not ordinarily come by this figure … This is truly a great day,” Kufuor said following the signing ceremony in Washington. The Ghanaian leader believes the program will be a fruitful venture. “It’s taken us two years to do the preparatory work by the Ghana team in conjunction with MCC technocrats. We know the project is well prepared and will succeed,” he added. The aid package includes $241 million to raise agricultural profitability, $143 million to support a transportation project, and $101 million to increase access to education, water and sanitation and electricity in the rural regions.
