Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt and former Botswana President Festus Mogae have agreed to lead the group of experts who will conduct an independent review of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s financial safeguards, according to the global organization.
Leavitt and Mogae will select the experts and individuals to join them on the High-Level Independent Review Panel of Fiduciary Controls and Oversight, which will assess the Global Fund’s existing financial oversight and implementation practices over the next few months. The panel will report to the Global Fund’s board and its findings will be made available to the public.
The review is part of the Global Fund’s broader campaign to strengthen its financial safeguards.
