Guatemalan Bank to Venture in Microfinance with IDB Aid

The Inter-American Development Bank offered as much as USD70 million in loans to Guatemala’s Banco G&T Continental to scale up lending for microenterprises and small businesses in the country. “This transaction will foster competition in Guatemala’s microfinance sector, contributing to its efficiency and promoting the democratization of credit,” Daniela Carrera-Marquis, who heads the financial markets division of IDB’s structured and corporate finance department, said.
