Haiti Government Plans Urban 'Growth Poles'

Relocating the majority of Haiti’s population in Port-au-Prince to smaller Haitian cities is the central theme of the Haitian government’s reconstruction plan, The New York Times reports. The plan is scheduled to be launched March 31 at the Haiti donors’ conference in New York. Under the plan, drafted by urban planners from the Haitian government agency in charge of the Caribbean nation’s development, a network of smaller urban “growth poles” will be established.
