Haiti Storm Damage Costs USD1 Billion, Says World Bank

World Bank President Robert Zoellick urged donors to scale up their aid to storm-hit Haiti as the costs of damages now stand at almost USD1 billion. Zoellick made the appeal at the end of his three-day visit in the Caribbean nation. “Imagine Hurricane Katrina had affected almost the whole country (the United States) and a much poorer country,” he said. Four tropical storms and hurricanes battered Haiti in August and September. (“Haiti storm damage estimated at USD1 billion” - Thomson Reuters, Oct. 22, 2008)
