Humanitarian Action Plan for Afghanistan Released

Afghanistan needs USD870M for humanitarian relief efforts in 2010, according to the 2010 Humanitarian Action Plan, released Jan. 17 by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Approximately 41 percent of this sum would support nongovernmental organizations, which gained bigger roles in aid delivery after the U.N. received threats in 2009.  HAP was drafted by OCHA, the U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan and the Afghan government, and is based on U.N. and NGO assessments of crisis situations in Afghanistan.
