The International Committee of the Red Cross has announced that it had provided shelter, clothes, cooking utensils, blankets and hygiene supplies to thousands of people affected by the renewed fighting in Sudan’s Darfur region.

“Almost 7,800 people affected by recent fighting and tensions around Shangil Tobaya, in north Darfur, have received emergency assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross over the last three days,” Agence France-Presse quotes an ICRC statement.

The organization added that it is closely monitoring the situation in the region.
