IDB unveils new initiatives for C. America, Dominican Republic

Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno has announced new initiatives for Central America and the Dominican Republic to help the subregion focus on promoting macroeconomic stability and their total integration into the global market. The initiatives, which will include USD2 billion in investments, will cover programs for energy efficiency, renewable energy, infrastructure projects, and other activities under the bank’s Opportunities for the Majority Initiative. The IDB is likely to approve USD2 billion in loans to the subregion in 2008, with USD700 million of the amount to be reserved for private sector projects.
