IMF Puts off Release of Pakistan Funding

The International Monetary Fund has suspended indefinitely the release of the fifth tranche of its USD1.2 billion loan for Pakistan. The failure of the Pakistani government to draft a bill on value-added tax has prompted the fund to delay the disbursement of the financing under the standby facility. A senior official at Pakistan’s Finance Ministry told The Dawn that the delay could only take a couple of days and not months.
