IMF, World Bank & IFI Round-Up

Effort to drastically reduce the burden of malaria in Africa received a boost with the World Bank committing 1.1 billion U.S dollars to combat malaria in Nigeria and the Republic of Congo. Nigeria has on its part increased the annual allocation for malaria control up to the sum of 1.5 billion naira (about 110 million U.S. dollars) in order to achieve the objective of eradicating the disease totally. Robert B. Zoellick, World Bank president, stated the new financial commitment would help African countries over the next three years to expand their malaria prevention, care, and treatment programs.
