India and Japan reaffirmed their pledge to work together during climate change negotiations under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, India’s deputy chairman of the Planning Commission and Masayuki Naoshima, Japan’s trade minister, announced the commitment during the Japan-India Energy Dialogue held in New Delhi on April 30.

He added that the region lags behind the rest of the country in terms of infrastructure and other aspects of rural development.
