International Community Urges Israel to Allow Access to Gaza

The United Nations and other international aid agencies have appealed to Israel to relax the blockade it imposed on the Hamas-ruled Gaza district, the New York Times reports. The blockade is hampering the flow of essential medical supplies and health care training to Palestinians living in the conflict-torn area, said Max Gaylard, the U.N. resident humanitarian coordinator for Palestinian territories.

"We have had extreme cases of patients dying because they could not get out to get the more advanced medical care in Israel," the U.N. official noted as quoted by Reuters.
