Afghans working in Iran send home some USD 500 million annually, equivalent to 6 percent of Afghanistan's gross domestic product (GDP), according to a new study commissioned by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Most Afghans working in Iran are doing so illegally, with some 360,000 of them having been deported last year, said the new report, which examines the migration of Afghans under irregular conditions and for employment purposes to Iran.
