Jamaica appealing for World Bank funding

Jamaica requested USD15 million from the World Bank to bolster the government’s early childhood venture. “A loan with a ceiling of up to USD15 million is a significant loan and would help with the establishment of the Early Childhood Commission and the implementation of the national strategic plan for early childhood education,” remarked education minister Andrew Holness. “That loan is being negotiated in a specific way whereby what we spend we will be reimbursed so it actually suits the government to have a significant item of expenditure in the budget because that is how the loan is actually given, based upon how much money you spend,” added the official, indicating that talks between the government and World Bank officials began last Monday.
