John Ging Joins OCHA As Director of Operations

John Ging has been appointed director of operations for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and will be in charge of monitoring the mobilization of humanitarian response to emergencies and disasters around the world.

Ging comes to OCHA from the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, where he has been director for Gaza operations since 2006, the Irish Times says.

Barbara Shenstone, the UNRWA director for the West Bank, is also reportedly stepping down in coming months after four years, according to the Jerusalem Post. Ging and Shenstone’s replacement have yet to be named, the newspaper adds.
