    Latin American countries suffered only minimal damages from the tsunami waves triggered by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northeastern Japan on March 11. Latin American governments implemented precautionary measures before the tsunami hit, including major evacuations in coastal areas in Chile and Ecuador, The Associated Press says.
