Liberia continues to make significant progress in consolidating peace after more than a decade of civil war, but the gains remain fragile, especially with regard to security, rule of law and job creation, according to the latest UN report issued Aug. 17 on the work of peacekeepers in the West African country. UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon warned that the burgeoning drugs trade in Liberia is a serious threat to the country's long-term stability. Ban said independent security institutions needed to be implemented in order to deal with the problem. (Xinhua, BBC)
