MCC Defends Aid to Senegal

U.S. and Senegalese officials assured their respective constituents that Senegal’s USD450 million grant from the Millennium Challenge Corp. is safe from corruption, Business Insider reports. Tanya Sutherland, MCC’s country director for Senegal, said that Senegal deserves U.S. aid because of its strong performance on good governance indicators. U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) argued recently that aid to the country should be stopped  because of the brazen corruption there.

“I don’t have much confidence that the funding is safe,” Royce said.
