The Millennium Challenge Corp. has opened its doors for applications from U.S. nationals working to have a degree and desiring experience in international development.
MCC is now recruiting interns for the fall 2010 session of its Student Volunteer Internship Program, which is especially designed for students who want to pursue a career in international development or the public sector.
The agency is offering 15 vacancies in its administration and finance, compact operations, congressional and public affairs, and policy and evaluation departments. There are also openings in its Office of the General Counsel.
Qualifications sought by MCC are fairly basic. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, currently enrolled at least half-time in an accredited or diploma program and in a good academic standing. Applicants should also be willing to undergo and pass a security background check.
Despite these basic requirements, applicants should expect a rigorous screening process as well as stiff competition. MCC would evaluate applicants based on their knowledge of international development, public policy, international relations, international law and business operations, among others. It would also look at the applicant’s regional and cultural knowledge, research and data management skills, administration and organizational capacities, verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of standard computer applications and office software.
How can you apply? All interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and a copy of school transcripts to firstname.lastname@example.org. Candidates interested in the position under the Office of the Legal Counsel are also required to provide a law-based writing sample. Make sure to send these requirements between Aug. 16 and Oct. 15, 2010, to be considered for the internships.
MCC internships are not paid. These are full and part-time volunteer positions at the MCC headquarters in Washington, D.C. The fall internship session will run from Sept. 27 to Dec. 17, 2010.
