The authorities in Mexico have arrested the head of the country’s Interpol office on suspicion of ties with Mexico’s powerful drug cartels. The Attorney General’s office said Ricardo Gutierrez Vargas was arrested on Sunday as part of Operation Clean-up, a major government crackdown on corruption within the police service. So far, four members of the Special Organized Crime Investigation Division have been arrested and 35 others sacked since the operation was launched in July. (Radio Netherlands)
