Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s democracy icon who was released last week, has spoken out and said her detention was “illegal,” the Associated Press reports. She also said that her recent release from house arrest does not signal a change in the ruling military government’s harsh rule of the country.

“I don’t think you can look at it like that,” the Nobel Peace Prize winner told AP.
