North Korea Needs USD503 Million to Avert Famine - UN

North Korea’s food aid requirements through November 2009 amount to USD503 million, according to the World Food Program. Without the funding, WFP fears famine will once again afflict the Asian country. Surging global food prices and China’s reluctance to approve export licenses for grain and flour have hampered North Korea’s ability to purchase food in the international market.
