Obama Extends National Emergency Status of Iraqi Stabilization

U.S. President Barack Obama has issued a notice extending the national emergency with respect to the stabilization of Iraq beyond May 22. Political and economic instability in Iraq “continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy” of the U.S., Obama said in a statement. The U.S. government is set to review Iraq’s progress on resolving its outstanding debts and claims before the end of 2010, Obama added.
